Program Guidelines

Consigner Guidelines:

  • Members agree to abide by regulations in this document and decisions made by board and group.
  • A board of directors will be elected annually to make administrative decisions for group members.
  • Producers must enroll by deadline for each commingling date. Minimum 5 head commitment of calves.
  • Enrollment Fee Structure:
    • $50 / producer enrollment fee (one time fee for new consigners) due at enrollment
    • $15 / head admitted program fee due at commingling
    • $75 / producer to reserve pen space due at enrollment that is applied to per hd fee
  • Consigners are responsible for all expenses incurred by their cattle during backgrounding.
  • The group will meet near the end of backgrounding to evaluate bids on cattle. Members with calves in a sale group will vote on the marketing of that pen (votes weighted based on the number of calves each producer has in pen). All cattle in this group are obligated to be marketed based on the group decision.

General Guidelines for Calves:

  • All procedures will be performed in accordance with Beef Quality Assurance standards.
  • Animals cannot receive implants in the 90 days prior to commingling.
  • A MVMA S/F QAP certification sheet signed by producer and veterinarian must accompany all calves. This sheet should include individual animal ID, description of animal, all vaccinations, vaccination dates, lot numbers of vaccines, and injection sites of each vaccination.
  • Any treatment given to calves prior to commingling will be recorded as to disease treated, date, product, dosage, route of administration, and injection site.
  • All calves must be born on the producer’s farm and weaned a minimum of 30 days prior to commingling.
  • Premise ID will be required as of 01/01/05
  • All calves must be QSA certified and have proper tags and documentation.
  • Heifers will be pregnancy tested at reweigh, any heifer determined to be pregnant will be rejected.
  • All accepted calves should weigh between the predetermined weight range. Animals outside this range will likely be rejected unless enough animals of similar weights are present to create a new group.
  • Calves will be rejected at commingling for:
    • Small Frame size (USDA Small Frame score as judged by USDA grader)
    • Rat-tails, frozen ears (less than 2/3 remaining), blindness in both eyes
    • Dairy or excessive Brahman influence (hump)
    • Any active disease (pneumonia, pinkeye)
  • Calves may be culled at reweigh for:
